Closer to Tiger's Nest

Taktshang Goemba, Paro, Bhutan

Taktshang Goemba (Tiger's Nest) is a monastery perched approximately 2700 ft above Paro Valley. Our steep ascent to the monastery took approximately two hours. Along the way, we stopped at the wooden tea house to take in the marvelous view while snacking on cookies and tea. En route, we passed young and old locals making the trek to pray. It was a truly marvelous way to begin our one month sojourn in Bhutan.

Prayer Wheel

We are in Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan. The gentleman who is posing with us spins the prayer wheels to collect merits. Like the Buddhists here, we never pass a prayer wheel without spinning it. We need as many merits as possible for this life.

Paro Valley

Kuzuzangpola Everyone!

After 30+ hours in the air, a four hour hotel stint in Bangkok (and not "that" kind of stint) and three countries later, we have arrived in Paro, Bhutan. The journey was worth every minute! As our plane descended into the valley of Paro, one couldn't help feeling that the wings of the plane would would graze either side of the the narrow green valley. Simply breathtaking!
